Ellamae Branstetter, 90, passed away on April 29, 2013. She received her nursing diploma from Jewish Hospital, St Louis in 1944, her BS from St Louis University in 1954, her M.P.H. degree in public & mental health nursing from the University of Minnesota in 1957. She earned her Ph.D in Human Development from the University of Chicago in 1969. In 1958 she was recruited from the Visiting Nurse Service in Phoenix to help inaugurate the ASU College of Nursing, where she was among the first three faculty members. She left ASU in 1964 to pursue her research and returned in 1967 to develop the initial graduate program in nursing. Nationally & internationally acknowledged for the development of nurse managed health centers, she was honored as "Outstanding Educator in America in 1974, given the Distinguished Faculty Award from the College of Nursing Alumni Association in 1983 and in 1985 received the University wide Faculty Achievement Award. Ellamae was an ASURA board member from 2000-2003 and served as Secretary from 2001-2002. Internment will be on June 1, 2013, Spring River Cemetery Verona, MO.
