Why join or renew?

There are many good reasons for maintaining a membership in the ASU Retirees Association, even if you don't envision atttending ASURA events.

When you join or renew, you are:

Bolstering negotiating power

ASURA advocates for retirees with ASU, the Arizona Legislature, the Arizona State Retirement System, and health insurance groups. ASURA needs your membership because the organization's influence is much greater if enrollment numbers are strong.

Staying informed

As a member you have options to receive information that can affect you:

  • Bills that the Arizona State Legislature is considering that would affect retirees
  • Actions that ASU is taking that affect retirees
  • Information to help you deal with issues in the areas of health insurance, technology, senior living, estate planning, and many more
  • Opportunities to participate in ASU research projects, often as subjects for studies in the area of health and nutrition
  • Opportunities to attend events put on by ASURA and by affiliated organizations
  • Notices of the deaths of people who worked at or were affiliated with ASU. Notices are timely enough to permit attendance at services and the sending of condolences.

Maintaining contact

As a member of ASURA you have many opportunities to maintain contact with other retirees, both socially and as an ASURA volunteer working on Association projects. These include:

  • The ASURA membership directory
  • Seminars
  • Social events
  • Travel events
  • Committee involvement and Board/leadership positions
  • ASURA's publications that include photos from events

Working as a volunteer for ASURA is very rewarding, and for many has been the means of forming new and lasting friendships.

Parking on campus

ASURA members have the opportunity to purchase a retiree/gold permit for parking at ASU. This permit is not available to non-members.
