ASURA Operations

ASURA is very efficient, especially given that it is operated entirely by volunteers. Operating expenses are kept to a minimum, but any good organization needs to spend some money to keep things running smoothly.

ASURA operating expenses

The ASURA operations account is used to cover such things as:

  • Office and meeting equipment and supplies, such as computers, printers, copiers, and paper.
  • Mailing supplies, postage, and services for Prime Times, the annual membership drive, and Board elections.
  • Service fees for the technology platforms used for the ASURA website, membership database, and photo gallery.
  • Rental fees, food, and supplies for events offered free to members, such as seminars and the annual Meet and Greet Pizza party.

The operations account also makes an annual contribution to the ASURA scholarship. This is because the endowed scholarship fund is not yet producing enough annual income to provide for as generous a scholarship as the Board and members want.

Sources of operating funds

ASURA combines income from the following sources to cover the operating expenses listed above:

  • Annual membership donations.
  • An annual allowance from ASU.
  • Extra donations by members.

ASU generously provides space, utilities and some services to ASURA at no cost.

Extra membership donations are an essential to maintaining ASURA's good financial health. They make up about one-quarter of the overall ASURA budget.

About ASURA operations

ASURA doesn't have to fees pay salaries to anyone, since it is operated completely by volunteers. It does have to pay for equipment, services, supplies, and rentals, e.g.:

  • Printing and mailing fees for things such as Prime Times, membership renewal notices, and Board elections.
  • Technology fees to host the ASURA website, membership database, and photo gallery.
  • Rental, food, and supplies for events that are offered to members at no cost, such as the Meet and Greet Pizza party.
  • Office equipment and supplies, such as computers, printer/copiers, paper and envelopes, etc.
  • Contributions to association projects when needed, primarily the ASURA Scholarship.

Sources of funds to cover operations expenses

To maintain a healthy balance in the operations account, ASURA combines income from these sources:

  • Annual membership donations
  • An annual contribution from ASU
  • Extra donations from generous members
