Book donation

Are your bookshelves too full? Are you retiring or downsizing and don't need or want all of your books? ASURA will gladly take your books and sell them to help support the ASURA scholarship and the Video History Project.

You do not have to be an ASU retiree to donate – anyone can do it! All books are accepted.

ASURA partners with the Friends of Phoenix Public Library to sell donated books. Friends gives ASURA a share of profits from sales. Those that Friends cannot sell are donated to teachers, librarians, and nonprofits. So every book that is not damaged will be either sold or donated to someone who can use it.

The proceeds from the sale of books are used to support the ASURA scholarship and the Video History Project.

When you donate, you may partially complete and sign a gift donation form which you then take / send to the ASURA Office.  The office volunteers will complete the form and send it to the ASU Foundation, a separate nonprofit organization that exists to support ASU. You will then receive a gift receipt from the ASU Foundation.

Book transfer options

If your books are located on one of the ASU campuses, Facilities Management will pick the boxes up from your department office and deliver them to the ASURA office. A service fee is charged for this, which some departments are willing to pay. ASURA does not have funds to cover the service fee.

The request to Facilities Management is made via a FACMAN service request.

Facilities will schedule a pickup date. Make sure Facilities has your name and department for the pickup.

If you are able to deliver the books, bring them to the ASURA office. Be sure to check the ASURA office hours, and also call before you come to be sure a volunteer is there. The volunteer will make arrangements to meet you to help with book transfer. We have two dollies that can be used to help with the transfer if needed.

Parking is readily available in a loading zone near the front door of the building. It is marked with a yellow curb stripe. You can park there free for up to 20 minutes. The book storage room is only steps away from the front door.

The books do not need to be in boxes. Any way you can carry them is fine. You should put them "loose" in our collection bins for transfer to the Friends. You can and should take your containers back with you.

If you are unable to deliver your books to the ASURA office, please contact Mary Stevens, 602-758-3750 or [email protected], or contact the office.

Be prepared to provide your name, email address, telephone number, and the approximate number of books you would like to donate. Mary or another ASURA volunteer will work with you to get the books transferred.

If you would like to help pick up books from those who cannot bring their books to the office
