Winifred Walsh Doane came to ASU as Professor of Zoology in 1977. She  brought significant enhancement to ASU’s young genetics program with her specialty in the developmental and biochemical genetics of Drosophila. At ASU, she taught genetic courses. She was especially instrumental in attracting and mentoring women in the sciences. Winifred is one of the pioneers of the Emeritus College, having served first on the Steering Committee that got it started and then participating actively in its programs.
