Thomas Gene Roberts, 80, died on April 12, 2015. He earned his BA in philosophy from Wake Forest College; his Master's degree in counseling from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill ; and his Ph. D. in special education from UNC. Thomas was a pioneer in special education, and developed curriculum for St. Louis County, Missouri. After moving to Arizona in 1970, he began teaching at ASU where he remained for 27 years, retiring as Department chairman of Special Education. Thomas is survived by his wife, Jean Reed Roberts, four children, two granddaughters, two brothers and two sisters. A celebration of his life will be held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, April 16, 2015, at The Terraces, 7550 N. 16th St., Phoenix, AZ 85020.
