Dr. Stanley Russell
Assistant Professor, Engineering Department - 1969-1983
Dr. Stanley Russell completed undergraduate school at the University of Illinois where he received his BS in Mathematics in 1959. He enlisted in the Army as an alternative to the draft and served two years at Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland working on helicopter weapons systems. During vacations he continued work as a civilian contractor at the Joliet Munitions Plant.
He subsequently returned to school at the University of Wisconsin at Madison where he received both his Master's and PhD degrees in 1969 as the first graduate in Applied Mathematics.
Stan was an Assistant Professor in the Engineering Department at Arizona State University from 1969 to 1983.
Subsequently he left the university and joined Motorola's Government and Space Electronics division as Principal Mechanical Engineer in the Mechanical Engineering Lab from 1983 to 2001 when he retired.
He continued his love of teaching for 15 years as a volunteer math tutor at Scottsdale Community College and Pima Community College in Tucson.
Stan is survived by his beloved wife, Dorothy, his son, his wife, Michele, and their two children. He is further survived by his two sisters and his nieces and nephews.
Stan is predeceased by his parents, Stanley and Lolita Russell, his brother, and his brother-in-law..
At Stan's request, no services will be held. However, for those members of the family or friends who are beer drinkers, he encourages them to hoist a stein of beer in his memory and wish him "Prost" on his next journey.
