Ronald Roscoe Starcher

Ronald Roscoe Starcher, 85, passed away on November 17, 2018. He pursued his education at Marietta College, Marietta, OH, where he graduated in 1955 with a major in chemistry and a minor in physics. Following graduation he served as a Radar/Electronics Technician for the U.S. Army station in Karlsruhe, Germany. After his army tour he worked as a development chemist for American Cyanamid Company of Bound Brook, N.J., at their Willow Island, WV plant. After he married Kathryn "Kay" Briggs they moved to Tucson, Arizona, where both entered graduate school at the University of Arizona. Ronald received his master's degree in 1964 followed by his Ph. D. in 1971. During this time he worked as a Jr. High Science teacher, Sr. High Chemistry teacher and Science Department Head at Canyon del Oro Jr.-Sr. High School located in the Amphitheater Public School District and as a principal at Suffolk Hills Catholic High School in Tucson. In 1971 he assumed the position of Superintendent for Antelope Union High School District #5, Wellton, AZ. In 1975 he became the Superintendent for Santa Cruz Valley Union High School District #840, Eloy, AZ. In 1984 he moved to Safford, AZ, where he became the Superintendent for Safford United School District #1, from which he retired in 1988. He was a member of the Adjunct Staff of the University of Arizona, ASU and Northern Arizona University, where he taught undergraduate, graduate courses and supervised student teachers. From 1991 to 1994 he served as Superintendent for the Diocese of Tucson with responsibility for 21 schools in the Diocese of Tucson. He served as president of the Central Arizona College Governing Board, as well as positions with civic and professional associations including team chairperson of numerous North Central Association visitation teams. He was a member of the American Chemical Society. Ronald was also a skilled photographer having his own photograph studio "Ron Star Photography." Ronald is survived by his wife Kathryn, a brother, niece and two children. He was preceded in death by his sister and an uncle. Services will be private.
