Professor Ronald A Holloway attended Arizona State University on a music scholarship where he received both his B.A. and master's degrees.
He served two years in the United States Army (1st. Lt.). Prior to moving to California, he was Director of Instrumental Music at Camelback High School in Phoenix. He served as Associate Director of Bands at Arizona State University and played professionally with the Phoenix Symphony.
Professor Halloway was on the faculty of California State University, Sacramento from 1966-1992 where he served as Director of Bands, Instructor of percussion and taught instrumental conducting, in addition to supervising student teachers.
Professor Halloway was co-author of two university level textbooks on percussion. His chief pleasures in life were working with his many outstanding students, conducting the Marching Band, Concert Band, Percussion Ensemble, Symphonic Wind Ensemble and travels throughout the world with his lifelong partner, Mr. Douglas Hammerich.
Ron is survived by his lifelong partner of 50 years, Douglas Hammerich, dear friends Marcie and Brooks Larson of Sacramento and Steve Moore and JT Rumsey of Camptonville, California and also his many students and academic colleagues.
A memorial celebration of his life will be held at a later date after arrangements have been made.
