Robert Harold Rasche
Distinguished Visiting Professor, Economic Outlook Center, Dept. of Economics
Robert Harold Rasche, 74, passed away June 2, 2016. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Anita Bensen, two children, a brother, nieces and nephews. Bob graduated from Yale University in 1963 with a degree in Economics and Mathematics. He was awarded a PhD in Economics in 1966 from the University of Michigan. Bob was employed as a Research Associate at MIT while working on the Federal Reserve Board - M.I.T. Monetary Research Project. In 1967 he started work as an Assistant Professor of Economics at the University of Pennsylvania. In 1971 he took a leave of absence and worked as a visiting scholar in the Research Department of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. In 1972 he accepted a position as Associate Professor of Economics at Michigan State University. In 1975 he was promoted to Professor. From 1976-1977 he was on a leave of absence from Michigan State and returned to the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis as a Visiting Scholar in the Research Department. In 1985 he was on a sabbatical for six months as a Visiting Scholar at the Research Department of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco. From September, through December 1986 he served as Distinguished Visiting Professor, at the Economic Outlook Center, Department of Economics, ASU, in Tempe, AZ. From January through March 1990, Bob worked as a Visiting Scholar in the Institute for Monetary and Economic Studies, at the Bank of Japan in Tokyo. In 1998 he was offered the position of Research Director at the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. He retired from Michigan State University in January, 1999 and returned to St. Louis. In 2009 he was promoted to Executive Vice President and Senior Policy Adviser at the St. Louis Fed. He retired in June, 2011.
