Richard O. Finley
Executive Manager of Associated Students - 10 years

September 4, 2018
Richard O. " Dick" Finley, 84, passed away September 4, 2018. In 1952 he went to Arizona State College but decided he would rather own a ranch, so he left school to make his fortune pumping gas at Standard Oil. The real world was a wake-up call, so he re-enrolled with a renewed determination and drive to get an education. He got a job as an RA in Irish Hall, was elected Activities Vice President of the student body, where he rallied students to change the name to Arizona State University. After graduation, he worked as Executive Manager of Associated Students at ASU for the next decade. He later went on to earn a Masters Degree in Counseling. After working at Modern Builders, he and his brother Mike left their respective jobs to start Finley Construction in 1968. His expertise in real estate development, storage facilities, sand and gravel, and ranching, has changed Arizona for the better. He was Chairman of the Board of the 100-acre billion-dollar Good Samaritan Hospital redevelopment project. He and his brother Mike built over 1500 single family homes, including six subdivisions, commercial buildings, tenant improvements and countless projects at friend's homes. Dick is survived by his wife, Mary, two children, two grandchildren, a great grandchild and three siblings. A celebration of his life will be Saturday, September 29 at 11:00 am at Scottsdale Bible Church's Venue on the east side of the campus. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Dick Finley Young Life Scholarship Fund (Source: Arizona Republic)
