Pre-retirement seminars committee

ASURA offers seminars to help people nearing retirement make financial and health insurance choices, and to plan for post-retirement life.

Goals of the seminars

ASURA's Pre-retirement Seminars Committee plans seminars to help address the most common concerns and questions of current ASU employees nearing retirement. Seminars help attendees understand and choose among options that are available for health insurance, financial plans, social security, and more .

Seminars are held the third Monday of each month via Zoom meeting technology, making them accessible to people working at any of the ASU campuses.

Typical seminar topics

A seminar on each of these topics is offered about once every six months.

  • Medicare
  • Social Security
  • Financial planning
  • Preparing to retire, by ASU's Human Resources
  • TIAA-CREF, by representatives from TIAA
  • ASRS, by representatives from the Arizona State Retirement System
  • What I wish I had known before retiring - by a panel of ASURA members. This is normally offered in September, in conjunction with ASURA's annual "Meet and Greet Pizza Party" event.
