Paul Lewis Emerick, Jr.
Professor of Computer Science - 1962 to 1969
Paul Lewis Emerick, Jr. passed away on May 3, 2012. Paul attended Wyomissing Polytechnic Institute until 1941. He then attended New York University and received his Meteorology Certification. He joined the Air Corps US Army and performed Meteorological Operations until June of 1946. Paul completed his service as a First Lieutenant with the 31TH Weather Squadron as a meteorologist. He later received a Bachelors of Mechanical Engineering in 1949 from Rensselaer Polytechnic and a Bachelors of Science from Salmon P. Chase College in 1954. He also received a MBA-Advance Business and Economics from Xavier University in 1958. Paul helped design the axial-flow turbojet engine for General Electric in 1962. These engines were used in a variety of fighter and bomber aircraft. Paul was a Professor of Computer Science at ASU in the Mathematics Department from 1962-1969 where he authored 2 books on computer science. Paul completed his teaching career as a Professor of Mathematics at de Anza College, Cupertino California from 1970-1989 when he retired. He was preceded in death by his wife Catherine, a brother and a sister. Paul is survived by a sister, a son, five grandchildren and two great grandsons.
