August 5, 2021

Patrick Evan Bertenshaw, 53, passed away on August 5, 2021 after being involved in a jet-skiing accident off the coast of the Bahamas. He graduated from the University of Arizona in 1990. Pat earned himself a reputation as being a leader in the financial services industry for more than two decades, most recently as a Senior Vice President of Financial Planning and Senior Partner on the father/son Bertenshaw Wealth Management Team at Merrill Lynch in Phoenix, Arizona. As a Certified Financial Planner, Pat dedicated his life's work to empowering individuals and families to make prudent financial decisions that last multiple generations.

Since 2016, Pat has been recognized in Merrill Lynch's exclusive President's Club, Director's Circle and Circle of Excellence with other top performing advisors. One of Pat's most proud accomplishments was being recognized by Forbes Magazine as one of Arizona's 'Best-in-State Wealth Advisors' for four consecutive years, dating back to the list’s inception in 2017. Although big shoes to fill, his son Ryan will succeed Patrick at Merrill Lynch and will continue to build upon his father's legacy and multigenerational wealth management business.

Patrick was actively involved in the Phoenix community by serving on the Planned Advisory Committee for the Arizona Foundation for Women and by helping strategically grow the Bank of America 'Women in Business Council' and the Merrill Lynch 'Women's Exchange' into the organizations they are today. Pat loved his alma maters, Brophy College Preparatory and the University of Arizona. In his free time, he helped organize local events for the UofA Alumni Association and served as the Brophy College Prep Class of 1986 Representative. Pat had an extreme passion and knack for teaching, and as a result, lectured on personal financial wellness at ASU, UofA and numerous community colleges across the valley for more than a decade.

Patrick is survived by his wife Staci, two sons, a daughter, his parents, two brothers, a sister, a half-brother plus many aunts, uncles, cousins and all of their immediate families. For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, Patrick's family would appreciate donations to be made to the Arizona Foundation for Women. Donations can be given via check made payable to "Arizona Foundation for Women" and mailed to: Arizona Foundation for Women (2201 E Camelback Rd Suite 405B, Phoenix, AZ 85016). Please include "In memory of Pat" on the check memo. (Source: ASU Foundation)
