Madeline Ong-Sakta
Madeline Ong-Sakata, 78, died November 23, 2016. Madeline was a community activist and changed the ways of Arizona and the Asian American Community. She was involved with the ASU Asian Advisory Board, Chinese American Citizens Alliance, Arizona Asian American Association, American Legion, City of Phoenix Pacific Rim Advisory Council, City of Phoenix Police Asian Advisory Board, Arizona Public Service (APS), Maricopa Community Colleges, Japanese American Citizens League (JACL), and of course the Asian Chamber of Commerce as Executive Director and Asian SUNews at Editor in Chief. She held leadership positions in all the organizations mentioned. No one can ever forget how much she fought to have ASU providing students with Asian American Studies and becoming a Minor in 2009. She worked closely with the students at ASU and the Asian/Asian Pacific American Students' Coalition for over 15 years and mentored many to become the professionals they are today. Madeline was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy. She leaves behind a son, five daughters and 14 grandchildren.
