Lanny C. Powell, 74, passed away September 10, 2016. He earned his Bachelors of Education and Masters of Geography at Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois. Dr. Powell earned his Ph.D. in Geography and Agriculture Economics from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, Illinois in 1971. He taught at Bloomington Junior High School, ASU, Iowa State University, Illinois State University, St. Ambrose University and Black Hawk College. At ASU he taught in the Geography Dept. for one year, 1967-68, as a Temporary Visiting Professor. This one year had a big impact on him. Dr. Powell served as the Executive Secretary to the Deputy Assistant Director at the National Science Foundation, in Washington, D.C. Lanny was preceded in death by three sisters and a grandson. He is survived by his wife, Linda, a sister, four children and nine grandchildren.
