ASU remembers
John Boyd Page, Jr.
Department of Physics and Astronomy
Professor and Doctor John Boyd Page, Jr., PhD, after 2 years at Texas A&M University, moved to the University of Utah where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree and then received a PhD in physics with his mentor and friend Gale Dick. He completed a post-doc at the University of Frankfurt. Following a second post-doc at Cornell University, where John made many new friends, he joined the faculty in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Arizona State University, in 1969, a position he held until his retirement in 2003. He took great pride in being a part of the ASU academic family, enjoying not only research in theoretical condensed matter physics and his colleagues, but especially teaching; his ASU College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Dean's Quality Teaching Award (1987) was one of the awards he was most proud of. Among his many other achievements, he published more than 100 papers, received an Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellowship (1984) and was named an American Physical Society Fellow (1990). John is survived by his wife N. Kay Page, his two daughters, his three grandsons and his sister. He was preceded in death by his parents. A Celebration of Life gathering was held on April 15, 2023.
