John Jacob Hallum, Jr., 76, passed away August 6, 2015. He began his high school coaching career at Pickens High School in South Carolina from 1960-62, and played four years of college football at Newberry College. He earned a Master's Degree at Murray State University. He coached high school football that included two state Kentucky state titles, and was named the Kentucky High School Coach of the Year by the Lexington Herald. He was head football coach at Morehead State University 1968-71. He coached at the University of Maryland 1972-81, where the team won three consecutive ACC titles. From 1982 to 1990 he coached at the University of Kentucky, and for eight years coached the offensive lines. He then finished out his college coaching career at ASU (1990-1992). After completing a 24 year coaching career, he served as a senior scout for three NFL teams: Philadelphia Eagles, New England Patriots and the Cleveland Browns. He is survived by his wife Mable, two sons, a stepson, a sister and two nephews. A private burial was on August 18 in Norris, SC.
