Rev. Jane A. Tews, 60, Senior Pastor of Dayspring United Methodist Church in Tempe, passed away on June 22, 2013. Jane received degrees from Nassau Community College (NY), Scarritt College (TN), Claremont School of Theology (CA), and the College of Law at ASU. From 1978-89 Jane served as Associate Pastor for Tempe First United Methodist Church and was also the Director of Campus Ministry at ASU. In her 35 years of ministry Jane pastored Christ United Methodist Church (1989-91), Gilbert First United Methodist Church (1991-97), Central East District Superintendent (1997-2004), and Dayspring United Methodist Church (2004-2013). Jane also served as a part-time Municipal Court Judge with the Gilbert Court from 1989-2012. For over 20 years, she was a member of the Board of Trustees of Friendship Village life care center in Tempe. Jane is survived by her mother, three sisters, a niece, two nephews and her beloved dog, Mischief. A celebration service of Jane's life will be held at Dayspring United Methodist Church, 1365 E. Elliot Rd. in Tempe on Wednesday, July 3 at 3 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jane's name may be made to any of the following organizations: Friends For Life animal rescue in Gilbert (www.azfriends.org), Imagine No Malaria mission project (imaginenomalaria.org), and Dayspring United Methodist Church (www.dayspring-umc.org).
