August 22, 2015
Dr. James Schoenwetter, 80, passed away on August 22, 2015. He received his Ph.D. from Southern Illinois University in 1967. He joined ASU faculty in 1967, following four years at the Laboratory of Anthropology at Santa Fe, New Mexico. He retired in 2000. Dr. Schoenwetter was Professor Emeritus of Anthropology in the School of Human Evolution and Social Change, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. He was an active member of the Emeritus College, a recipient of the 2015 Emeritus College Distinguished Service Award, and Director of the Emeritus Press. While his research reputation stems from expertise in the study of pollen recovered from the deposits of archaeological sites, he has taught generations of students something he believes will long outlast what he has told them about the procedures of field and laboratory archaeology or information about what has been learned of prehistory. He calls it, “The habits of mind that are the tools for undertaking creative, stimulating, and productive professional careers.”
Information about a memorial event for Dr. Schoenwetter will be shared as it becomes available. (Source: Emeritus College)
