James R. Rowley
Associate Professor, Graphic Design

September 22, 2018
James R. Rowley, 74, died on September 22, 2018. Jim earned a Bachelor's degree in fine arts from the Kansas City Art Institute and a Master's degree in fine arts from the University of Utah. In 1972, he founded a graphic design firm in Denver, Colorado, which quickly became one of only a handful of firms then working nationally on medium to large-scale identity, signage and exhibit projects. In 1986, Jim relocated the firm, then known as Rowley Associates, to Scottsdale, Arizona. There he continued an active consulting practice while taking on the additional challenge of becoming an Associate Professor of Graphic Design at ASU. Jim left full time teaching in 1992 and renewed attention to his design consulting business, which he continued until 2017. Jim is survived by his wife, Marilyn Dyer Rowley, a son, two grandsons, two sisters and many other relatives. (Source: ASU Foundation)
