James Robert Kearney III

James Robert Kearney III, Professor Emeritus, Arizona State University, passed peacefully from this world January 13, 2006. Professor Kearney was born in 1929 and raised in St. Louis, MO. He attended John Burroughs School and went on to receive his Bachelors Degree at Pomona College. Upon completion of his undergraduate work, he joined his family's electronic manufacturing business, the James R. Kearney Corporation, back in St. Louis. He then pursued a master's degree from Washington University followed by his Ph. D. from Wisconsin University. Dr. Kearney taught history for 30 years at Arizona State University. Professor Kearney was an accomplished jazz pianist, a passionate reader and enjoyed a life-long love affair with baseball. He was a lecturer for the Arizona Humanities Council and was also a published author whose works included "Anna Eleanor Roosevelt: An Evolution of a Reformer." Professor Kearney is survived by his wife Linda McNatt Kearney; daughter Becky and son-in-law James Shepperd of Tulsa; son James Robert Kearney IV; granddaughter Kelsey and grandson Jake. He will be remembered as a man of honor, strong character, and generosity. He will be greatly missed.
