James Case
Professor, Dept. of Speech and Hearing Science - 1969 to 2001

James L. Case, (66) passed away 1/31/06 after a courageous 7 -yr. battle with Pulmonary Hypertension. Born 6/21/39 in Ogden Utah to Mary Melba Paul & Joseph Case. Spent childhood on farm in Pleasant View UT - but preferred being involved in sports, plays & musicals. Received B.S. from Weber State Univ. & M.S. & Ph.D. from Univ. of Utah. Professor of speech-Language Pathology (Speech & Hearing Science) at ASU for 33 yrs. from 1969 until he retired in 2001. Upon his retirement, the Department of Speech and Hearing Science established the James Case Speech and Hearing Scholarship. Member & fellow of ASHA, the Cleft Palate Assoc., & past president & Honors Recipient of ARSHA. Served 15 yrs. on Southwest Craniofacial Medical Team. Authored 4 editions of his textbook "Clinical Mgmt. of Voice Disorders". Life-long member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Served mission in New England. Fulfilled many callings in Church - but favorites were Bishop of Univ. Ward on ASU campus, & Gospel Doctrine instructor. Teaching was his true calling. Jim is survived by his loving wife, Diane, and his 4 children: Jeff (Rebecca), Brian (Leigh), Darren (Jane) & Christy (Damon) & his 14 beloved grandchildren. He is also survived by siblings: Aldine, Bernice & Will. Preceded in death by parents & brother.
