Jackson M. Drake
Professor Emeritus of Educational Administration and Policy Studies

Dr. Jackson M. Drake, 88, passed away on June 10, 2010. Dr. Drake was Professor Emeritus of Educational Administration and Policy Studies, College of Education at ASU. He was a graduate of St. Louis School of Aeronautics in St. Louis, Missouri, and served in the Army Air Corp Training Command during WWII, from 1942-1946. Following his honorable discharge from the Air Force he received degrees from Southern Illinois University and the University of Illinois. In 1963, he received his doctorate in Educational Administration and Law from Columbia University in New York City. Dr. Drake and his family then moved to Scottsdale, Arizona, where he was Principal of Arcadia High School for 12 years. During this 12-year period, he was also an Adjunct Professor in the College of Education at ASU. In 1974, he joined the ASU faculty full time. For more than 20 years he served as Director of the Bureau of Educational Research and Services, and as Director of the Arizona Educational Information System. He also taught numerous graduate courses in the legal aspects of School Administration. Upon his retirement from ASU, Dr. Drake was an adjunct Professor for 10 years in the Center for Educational Excellence at NAU in Flagstaff, Arizona. Dr. Drake was a Life Member of the Fiesta Bowl Committee; and for more than 20 years, chaired and served on numerous committees. He was also a member of the Valley Presbyterian Church and the El Zaribah Shrine Club of Arizona. Dr. Drake was preceded in death by his wife Betty L. Drake and a daughter. He is survived by one son and wife and two granddaughters.
