George Karl Wittenberg, 66, passed away on November 8, 2014. He is survived by a sister, two nephews and two grand-nieces. George graduated from Elmhurst College, Elmhurst, IL, in 1970 and received his Doctorate of Philosophy from ASU. While at ASU he lectured for the Dept. of Chemistry and Biochemistry, the Dept. of Chemical and Biological Engineering, the Dept. of Special Education, and the Johns Hopkins University Center at ASU. George was awarded a Summer Fellowship for Excellence in Teaching, elected to Phi Lambda Upsilon Commendation for Quality Teaching, recipient of the Faculty Appreciation Award and named Outstanding Professor in Chemistry. George was also on staff in the Maricopa Community College district in instructing at Mesa Community College and Phoenix College. In 1988 he became Residential Faculty at Glendale Community College and eventually Chemistry Department Associate Chair until his retirement in 2006. He served as a member of the University Heights Neighborhood Assoc., the Tempe "Visions" Citizens Involvement Committee, and the Tempe Apache Blvd. Redevelopment Committee. (Source: Arizona Republic)
