Fritz L. Goreham
Clerk of the course for ASU Track meets
Fritz L Goreham attended Grinnell College, graduating in 1956. Upon his graduation from University of Iowa College of Law in June 1959, Fritz moved to Montezuma, Iowa, where he practiced law with his grandfather, Clyde McFarlin. In 1963, Fritz was offered a position in Arizona with the Office of the Solicitor of the U.S. Department of the Interior, where he would work for many years until his retirement in 1989. After graduating from law school, Fritz turned his love of athletics to officiating. Fritz would go on to spend over 50 years of officiating both basketball and football at the youth, high school, junior college, and college levels. In his 49 years of officiating in Arizona, Fritz served as the clerk of the course for Arizona State University track meets, officiated 18 girls' and boys' state championship basketball games, served on a national rules committee for basketball, and mentored thousands. Fritz was admitted to the Arizona Football Officials Association Hall of Fame and the Fritz Goreham Lifetime Achievement Award is given to the top high school basketball official each year. Fritz additionally worked in the stats booth at Arizona State University and Arizona Cardinals football games and even worked a few Super Bowls. Along with his parents and sister, Fritz was preceded in death by his loving wife Sandra and a daughter. Fritz is survived by his three children and his nine grandchildren. A Celebration of Life was held on May 25, 2024. |
