Elizabethann O’Sullivan, 69, passed away on April 16, 2014. At the time of her death Liz was a resident of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Indianapolis, IN and Cary, NC. Liz received a BA from Dunbarton College (DC) and an MA and PhD in Government and Public Administration from the University of Maryland. As a member of a District of Columbia women's collective in the late 1960's and early 1970's, she helped found one of the first rape crisis centers in the United States. Her early professional research focused on organizational issues faced by rape crisis centers. Liz taught Political Science at Dunbarton College, and Public Administration at Grand Valley State College. At ASU she was a faculty member of the then, Center of Public Affairs from 1975-1979. She left ASU to join the faculty of North Carolina State University and eventually served as the head of her academic unit. Dr. O'Sullivan was the lead author of Research Methods for Public Administrators and was working on its sixth edition. After she retired in 2010 from North Carolina State University where she served for 32 years, Dr. O'Sullivan and her husband lived in Malaysia where she was working on several projects. She also traveled extensively in Asia and Europe. In 2008 Liz was a Fulbright Scholar attached to the Universiti Sains Malaysia in Penang, Malaysia. in Malaysia she remained active with her work with various women's Non Governmental Organizations. Surviving are her husband of almost 40 years, Douglas Hale, two sons, two grandsons and four siblings. Her parents and a brother predeceased her. Liz was cremated in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia on April 20, 2014. A portion of her remains were scattered on the seas adjacent to Bali, Indonesia. The remainder of her ashes will be interred at All Saints Episcopal Church, Indianapolis, IN on Oct 11, 2014 at 11 a.m. A memorial gathering will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Church on Wade Ave., Raleigh, NC, on September 21, 2014 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers please consider Dayspring Center, 1537 Central Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46202, United States.
