March Board Meeting
- Jeri Meeks reported on attending with Tara Roesler the Community and Legislative Partners in Aging meeting at the Arizona Capitol. This group is sponsored by the Governor’s Council on Aging and these meetings bring together a caucus of Arizona Senators, Representatives and community partners to discuss challenges facing Arizona’s seniors.
The February meeting addressed Honoring Healthcare Wishes in Arizona. It was an informative discussion between lawmakers, police, fireman, EMS representatives and nonprofit health information exchange (HIE) panelists. All were in agreement that these professionals are relying on relatives to provide documented end-of-life wishes and that it would be very beneficial for responders to have those wishes, along with medical records, available before they met the patient. Efforts are being made to make this information available to responders through a health information exchange database
- Tara Roesler, Jeri Meeks, and Bill Stasi attended ASU’s Day at the Capitol on February 19. Besides meeting Sparky, the trio had good discussions with several legislators as they, the legislators, walked by on their way to get their free lunch.
- Tara Roesler announced the results of the latest Board Elections. She was pleased to tell the Board that Jane Carey, Larry Carlson, Evelyn Cesarotti, Carl Cross, and Frank Koonce were elected and will take their positions on the Board after the Annual Meeting in April.
- Jan Thompson presented the following slate of Officers for next year: Carl Cross, Vice President; Pat Schneider, Secretary; Barry Bruns Treasurer; and Tara Roesler, Past President. The Board approved the slate.
Annual Meeting
This year’s Annual Meeting is being held on ASU’s Downtown Campus. The Walter Cronkite Building is on a Light Rail stop and there will be parking beside the building. Tara Roesler has engaged the Dean of the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communications to speak on the Future of Journalism. It is easy to register and there is plenty of room so bring along all your fellow ASU retirees.
