Dr. Cherry Lou Herald attended Arizona State University, earning B.S. and M.S. degrees in Chemistry and a PhD in Organic Chemistry in 1969.

She worked at the Arizona State University Cancer Research Institute (CRI) with Professor G. Robert Pettit for over 30 years, beginning as a Research Chemist and retiring as the Assistant Director in 2006.

At CRI, Cherry worked alongside her husband Del on natural product isolation and testing for anti-cancer activity.

Cherry is preceded in death by parents Edwin and Margaret Bell and husband Delbert Leon Herald, Jr.

She is survived by her two brothers,  her son and wife; her daughter and husband; her three grandchildren; and her niece and nephew.

A memorial service was held on August 12, 2024.
