Charles Martin Woolf, 91, ASU Emeritus Professor of Zoology, and Administrator, died September 16, 2016. He served as an Ensign in the Navy during World War II, stationed at Pearl Harbor. Woolf received his Bachelor's (zoology) and Master's (genetics, botany) degrees from the University of Utah and his Ph.D. (genetics) from the University of California, Berkeley. He was a member of the faculty at the University of Utah before coming to ASU in 1961. At ASU, he served as Dean of the College of Liberal Arts, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, and Dean of the Graduate College retiring in 1989. He served ASURA as a Board Member from 2000-2003. During his academic career, he also taught summer school at Harvard University, University of California, Berkeley, and Northeast Forestry University in Harbin, China. He was a prolific writer and authored four books. He also published more than 75 articles in scientific journals summarizing his original research. Woolf is survived by his wife, Marion, four children, a brother, 10 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and multiple nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers and two sisters.
