Carol Van Kirk

Carol Elaine Van Kirk (Kuminecz), 65, of Casa Grande, AZ, died on Nov. 13, 2010, at the Oasis Pavilion Nursing & Rehabilitation Center . A Rosary will be recited at 10 a.m., with funeral Mass to follow at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 18th, 2010, at St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church. Mrs. Van Kirk was born on July 27, 1945, in South Bend, Indiana. She worked in the Human Resources Department of Central Arizona College for over 25 years. Previous to that she worked at Arizona State University and Indiana University. She spent her Saturday mornings following Notre Dame college sports, enjoyed family Scrabble games, and finding comfort in her cats. She instilled in her children a love of theatre and the arts, as well as reading and literature. For the last four-and-a-half years, she delighted in her two granddaughters. Mrs. Van Kirk was well-known for her kindness, generosity and her indomitable spirit. She dearly loved her family and friends. Survivors include her husband of 38 years, John Van Kirk; a daughter, Dr. Kathleen Scarbo of Kaua'i, HI; a son, David Van Kirk of Hampton, Virginia; five brothers, John Kuminecz of Las Vegas, NV, Jim Kuminecz of Glendale, AZ, Patrick Kuminecz of Granger, IN, Cary Kuminecz of Orchard Park, NY, and Jerry Kuminecz of Houston, TX; and two granddaughters, Mia Carlyn Van Kirk and Adelaide Elaine Scarbo; daughter-in-law, RikkiAnne Van Kirk; and son-in-law, Michael Scarbo. She was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Helen Kuminecz, and a brother, Carl Kuminecz, all of South Bend, Indiana, and father and mother-in-law, Vernon Van Kirk and Maria Van Kirk of Casa Grande , AZ.
