Carol obtained her PhD in History from ASU at age 50, and inspired hundreds of minds at both Arizona State University and later at Mesa Community College.

She is preceded in death by her husband Larry Martel, her sister, and her parents, Lysle and Marian, and granddaughter.

She is survived by her three children as well as 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Carol had a passion for the pursuit of knowledge which inspired her to teach. She was a co-founder of Girl Scout Troop 40, which recently celebrated their 45 year reunion.
