Dr. C. Roland Haden, 73, passed away on August 24, 2013. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Weathers Haden, two daughters, a son, his mother, two brothers, five grandchildren and two great-grandsons. Roland retired in 2002 after a long and distinguished career in academia as Vice Chancellor of Engineering for the Texas A&M University System and the Dean of the Dwight Look College of Engineering at Texas A&M University. He received his B.S. degree magna cum laude from the University of Texas at Arlington, his M.S. from the California Institute of Technology, and his Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin, all in Electrical Engineering. He was a member of the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) and twice served on the Executive Committee of the Engineering Deans Council of ASEE. In 1998, he was honored by the ASEE with the Donald E. Marlowe Award as a national role model in advancing engineering education and the engineering profession. Haden served as a faculty member of the Electrical Engineering Department in the 1970's, both at Texas A&M University and the University of Oklahoma. He began his administrative career as Department Head of Electrical Engineering at the University of Oklahoma and then served as Dean of Engineering at ASU at the age of 38, being the youngest Dean of Engineering in the U.S. at the time. He later served as Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost at ASU. Roland then became Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Provost at Louisiana State University. Eventually he returned to Texas A&M in 1993, to serve as Vice Chancellor and Dean of Engineering. Funeral services will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 31, 2013at the A&M Church of Christ, 2475 Earl Rudder Freeway South in College Station. A graveside service will take place at 4 p.m. Saturday, August 31, 2013 at the Dresden Cemetery in Dresden, Navarro County, Texas.
