Barbara Palley Fargotstein, 76, passed away on October 4, 2021. In 1969 she graduated with two bachelor’s degrees in Nursing and Sociology from ASU. Following graduation she completed her Master’s degree in Nursing with a specialty in Psychiatric Nursing at UCLA. During Doctoral studies at University of Utah she developed an interest in Nursing Ethics. When a family member became ill she chose family first forgoing completing her dissertation and earning her PhD. Upon returning to Arizona she served as a “Lincoln Fellow in Ethics” in Nursing and Health Care at ASU’s Lincoln Center for Applied Ethics. She also served on Hospice of the Valley’s Ethics Committee. For 21 years she was a Clinical Associate Professor at ASU and was passionate about teaching tomorrows nursing leaders. She was an active participant in the honorary Nursing sorority Sigma Theta Tau, and Arizona Town Hall.

Barbara is survived by four siblings, two nieces, two nephews as well as numerous first and second cousins. According to Barbara’s wishes she will be interned at Paradise Memorial Gardens. Due to the Covid pandemic Barbara’s celebration of Life will be held in the Spring at an outside venue. More details to follow in the spring regarding the location and time. Memorial donations can be made to Hospice of the Valley or the ASU Edson College of Nursing and Healthcare Innovation for student education and/or a charity of your choice.
