ASU police said Phillips began his career with the department in 1985 and served his community for 27 years before he retired in 2012.

He was a loving family man, and retired Police Sergeant with ASU DPS. Al was a survivor and resilient human being who cared a lot about helping people and was loved by many. It's sad that an unfortunate accident took him from his family on his way home from his morning walk.

He is survived by his wife Donna, along with her two sons.
