Annual Meeting
ASU Giving Day

The time has come the Walrus said to speak of many things’ of shoes and ships and sealing wax of ASURA’s Annual Meeting and ASU’s Giving Day (1).

Annual Meeting

The ASURA Annual Meeting is coming up in April. You are not going to want to miss this meeting. There are delicious breakfast pastries and the traditional carrot birthday cake, a presentation by this year’s scholarship recipient, the handing over of leadership to Kay Faris, and a dynamic guest speaker, Professor Dennis Hoffman. And if this is not quite enough there is plenty of free parking!

For those of you who might not know Professor Hoffman, he is a Professor in the W.P. Carey School of Business and Director of the L. William Seidman Research Institute and the ASU Office of University Economist. He is a recognized expert on the economy and a frequent media contributor.

The first meeting announcement will be coming out shortly but you don’t need to wait; you can register right now – click on the “Upcoming ASURA Events” link below; scroll down to the meeting and click on “Register”
I’ll be there and hope to see you.

ASU Giving Day

Last week I thought it would be interesting to see what sort of donations our members have made this fiscal year to support Operations, the Adopt-A-Family program, the Scholarship, and the Video History Project. What I found was amazing and very gratifying.

  • There were 143 donations made between July 1 and February 28. Our Financial Operations Manager told me that the donations come in all year and not just during membership renewal.
  • You are very generous. The total donations (July 1-Febrary 28) were $4,185. A third of this went to Operations and 28 percent went to the Scholarship.
  • The average donations were about $27 for Operations, Adopt-A-Family, and Scholarship but were almost double that at $47 for the Video History Project
  • The largest single donation was $500 to the Video History project.

Serendipitously, tomorrow, March 16, is Sun Devil Giving Day. For almost 10 years, Sun Devil supporters around the world and in the ASU community have come together on Sun Devil Giving Day to support ASU students, faculty, staff, programs and causes. Their gifts have fueled the causes that lie at the heart of the ASU Charter — the inclusion and success of every student, research and discovery that makes a difference in people’s lives, and a commitment to the health of our communities (2).

Our website allows you to donate to any of the programs I discussed above. Each of the links below takes you to a page with some background about the program and a link to donate online or by check.

You have an amazing record of giving and I know all the volunteers that help keep this association running thank you and truly appreciate your generosity
