Yaa-Yin Fong

Yaa-Yin (Meng) Fong, 61, passed away on November 28, 2018. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting in 1979 from Feng Chia University, in Taiwan and immigrated to Arizona in 1980, to attend ASU, earning her MBA in 1983. With her business savvy and dedication to academics, she quickly grew into a leadership role at ASU after starting her career there as an accountant. When she left ASU 23 years later, in 2006, she was the Chief Operating Officer of the Biodesign Institute. In 2006, Yaa-Yin became the Director of the Office of Research Services for the University of Hawaii, and served in that position for ten years before becoming the Assistant Vice President of Academic Resource Planning at the University of Texas, Arlington. Yaa-Yin is survived by her husband, Peter Crouch, who joined ASU in 1984, was appointed dean of ASU’s Fulton College of Engineering in 1995 then served as ASU’s vice provost for global engagement from 2005 to 2006. Crouch was appointed dean of the College of Engineering at the University of Hawaii at Mānoa in 2006. In 2016 he joined University of Texas Arlington as dean of the College of Engineering and as a professor of electrical engineering. Yaa-Yin is also survived by her son, two brothers and a sister.
