William Strickland

William Charles Strickland,66, passed away January 12, 2012. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister. Survivors include two children, two sisters, nieces and nephews. Bill was married previously to Carla Buice Reinlie, mother of their two children, of Mary Esther, FL. Bill held an undergraduate degree in Music Education from LSU, a graduate degree in Music Performance from Catholic University, and a graduate degree in Library Science from the University of Maryland. His performing experiences included the Guadalajara Symphony (Mexico), Shreveport Symphony Orchestra, Mobile Symphony Orchestra, the Spoleto Festival, and the Yale Chamber Orchestra (Norfolk, CT). In addition, he played behind a number of popular artists such as Tony Bennett, Ray Charles, and Englebert Humperdinck as a free-lance musician in New York and New Orleans. He was also active as a pit musician in Tulane’s Summer Lyric Theatre and the Saenger Performing Arts Center during his years in New Orleans. Teaching positions included Mariemont Ohio City Schools, Mobile Alabama City Schools, North Carolina School of the Arts and Wichita State University and taught in Seoul, Korea on a Fulbright grant. He also served at ASU while ASU Professor Ralph Lockwood was on leave to play in The Cleveland orchestra in 1975-76 by teaching in the Horn Studio, conducting the University Brass Choir, and performing with the Gammage Wind Quintet. Before retiring in June of 2011, he was the Business Librarian for the AB Freeman School of Business at Tulane University. He worked at Tulane University for 23 years, beginning as a general reference librarian within Howard-Tilton Memorial Library. He began his library career as a Symphony Librarian, working for the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra and the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra. He held memberships in the American Federation of Musicians, the Academic Business Library Association, the Library Association, and served as the President of the Louisiana/ Mississippi Chapter of the Special Libraries Association for two separate terms.
