William Joe Collier, 76, passed away on March 20, 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter. He is survived by his son, three grandchildren, five great grandchildren and three step-children. Joe graduated from Baylor University in 1960. He was the Director of the Phoenix Police Scientific Crime Detection Laboratory for nearly 30 years and most recently was a private consultant in the Forensic field. He taught courses on Drugs, Narcotics, and Criminalistics at the Department of Police Science at Phoenix College. He also taught courses at Glendale Community College and lectured at ASU and the Phoenix Police Academy. His work in Toxicology, Drugs, Forensic Chemistry, and Criminalistics spanned over 50 years. He was a Fellow in the American Academy of Forensic Science and a member of many other professional and scientific organizations. Services will be held Thursday, March 27th at 11:00 AM at Heritage Funeral Chapel, 6830 W. Thunderbird Rd. Peoria. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Valley , 1510 E. Flower St. Phoenix, AZ 85014.
