Wilford George Thompson, Jr., M.D. 88, died September 19, 2013. He joined the Army Air Corp in WWII, and was accepted to medical school. He graduated from medical school at the age of 24, first practiced in Anchorage, Alaska, during the Korean war; practiced family medicine in Wray, Colorado; and then in Mesa from 1963 through 1980. He served as Chief of Staff of Mesa Lutheran Hospital in 1977. He retired his office practice in 1980, and then spent two years at ASU at the Student Infirmary. He is survived by his wife, Jean, three daughters, a son, five grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and a brother. He is predeceased by his parents, two siblings and one great-grandchild. An open house Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, September 28th, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., at Solterra Senior Living, 350 South Alma School Road, Chandler, Arizona 85224.
