Warren Wayne Hoffer, 78, passed away November 6, 2014. A US Army veteran, he was a Soloist with The Army Chorus, "Pershing's Own," in Washington, DC, from 1960-63. He performed at the White House for President Kennedy, for visiting Prime Ministers and dignitaries at the State Department and for many top-ranking officers of the military.

Following his military experience, he returned to Wisconsin, where he completed Bachelor and Master of Music degrees at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He taught at State University of New York at Buffalo for nine years. He was a frequent featured soloist with Buffalo Philharmonic and with the Toronto (Canada) Symphony Orchestra. He premiered many new vocal works as a member of the Center for the Creative and Performing Arts, which performed at Carnegie Hall, NYC. He joined the music faculty at ASU in 1972, rising to Full Professor during his tenure. He continued performing with orchestras and at music festivals across the US, focusing on oratorio and song recitals. After a sabbatical in England in 1981, he presented six recitals of British vocal music, and developed a website for English song. He retired from ASU in 2003 after 31 years of teaching. He is survived by his wife Mary Pendleton, two children, his former wife, Sheila Hoffer, two siblings, five grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 11, 2014, at 2:00 PM, at the ASU Kerr Cultural Center, 6110 North Scottsdale Road, Scottsdale, AZ 85253 (off of Rose Lane, on the west side of Scottsdale Rd., south of Lincoln). A further, informal celebration of Warren's life will be held, January 10, 2015. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the ASU's Music Therapy program.
