Vladimir T. Borovansky

Arizona State University Libraries - 1968-2004

Dr. Borovansky was hired in 1968 by Arizona State University's Science Reference Department of the Hayden Library and was instrumental in the concept, design and leadership of the Noble Science and Engineering Library. He retired in 2004.

After the 1945 liberation of Prague by American soldiers, Mirek longed to become a U.S. citizen. Seeking political asylum with his wife and daughter, they arrived in Arizona in 1968 and became U.S. citizens in 1973. Career highlights include working at the University of Petroleum and Minerals in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia and a year as a Fulbright Scholar in Prague, where Mirek assisted with updating patent catalogs at his beloved Charles University. He was active in the Prague-Phoenix Sister Cities organization. An avid runner, he participated in many marathons around the world. Mirek was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife, Dagmar; his daughter; his son; and three grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held in Phoenix in February 2022. In lieu of flower, memorial donations may be made to Prague-Phoenix Sister Cities or Alzheimer's Association.
