Vince Castronovo

Vince Castronovo, 81, of Tempe, Arizona, passed away Sunday, Dec. 13, 2009 in his home, after a brief illness. Born May 12, 1928, in Rockford, Illinois, the son of Vincent and Grace (Manzullo) Castronovo. He lived in Rockford until 1980, when he retired as a Lieutenant with the Rockford Fire Department. He then was employed as a maintenance manager at ASU, in Tempe, AZ., again retiring in 1993. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the Merchant Marines. He also served in the U. S. Air Force for 7 yrs. Vince was a lifetime member of El Zaribah Shrine Center, Tebala Rockford Lodge # 102, donating many hours of service to the cause of the Crippled Children's Hospitals and Transportation Funds. Past Captain of the Temple Guard; Life member of "Cerrojo Teocalli #16, a Shrine- related organization, where he was recipient of The Gold Feather Award for exemplary service; proud member of the "Order of Knights, Eagles, & Tigers"; served as an aide to Potentates, & on numerous committees; member of Scottish Rite, 32nd Mason; & a member of Tempe Elks Lodge# 2251. Vince was an avid golfer, & enjoyed volunteer work for the Shrine, & socializing with his friends. Survivors include his beloved wife of 32 years, Liz; daughters, Bonnie (Dave) Klagues, of Rockford, Ill.; Gracie (Carl) Rossi, of Loves Park, Illinois; grandsons, E.J. Rossi & Zachary Castronovo; great-grandson, Joey Rossi; numerous nieces & nephews; step-children, Lil (Ken) Kruger, Louise (Phil) Cicero, John (Kathy) Rinaldo, & Connie (Jack) Benson; 10 step- grandchildren, & 12 step great-grandchildren. Predeceased by parents; brothers, Nick & Anthony Castronovo; sister, Isbelle Cuda; & son, Bucky Castronovo.
