Val retired in 2000 as Director of Facilities Management at ASU after serving in the position for over 12 years. He served in a similar position for 20 years at Utah State University prior to coming to ASU. Peterson has been a member of regional, national and international facilities management associations since 1970, and has served as President of each organization. In addition, he has written regular feature columns in an international facilities management magazine and regional newsletters. A compilation of selected articles was published in a book titled Communication is the Key. Peterson is a licensed professional engineer and spent a portion of his career working as a consulting engineer.
