Troy Crowder, 94, passed away October 29, 2018. He was Professor Emeritus from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism. Troy came to ASU in 1969–70, where he taught occasional classes in journalism, but his main job was as the Assistant to acting (and then full) President Harry K. Newburn. He stayed on as Assistant to the President through John Schwada’s term (1971–1981) and most of Russell Nelson’s term (1981–1989). He retired in 1986 as Special Assistant to the President Nelson. When Troy retired, he explained his early retirement at age 62 by telling people that there were still lots of birds throughout the country and the world that he and his wife wanted to see. Troy’s academic area was journalism, and in their travels both throughout the U. S. and the world, Troy took photographs, and then wanting to be more involved in what he saw, he began painting. Troy was a member of ASURA. His  ASURA Video History Interview was conducted October 22, 2003. View by clicking on Play on the right side of the screen. Troy is survived by his wife, Betsy, and was preceded in death by a son, Greg. No service is planned. (Selected information from: Emeritus College Journal)
