Thomas Arthur Makris, 85, passed away November 29, 2013. Tom enlisted in the Army and served as Military Police, patrolling the open cities of Rome and Venice. He was honorably discharged in 1948. He graduated from Ithaca College with a degree in Education and began his teaching career in New Hampshire. After being invited to Arizona for a visit with a friend, Tom loved the area so much that he decided to stay. He went on to teach Education Curriculum at ASU for several years. While working at the university, Tom earned several Master Degrees in multiple disciplines. Eventually, he taught Arizona history in the public schools of Phoenix. He became school Principal and later the Superintendent of Pubic Education for the Wilson School District, a position he held until retirement. Tom is survived by his wife, Linda, a sister, nephews and nieces and other relatives. Tom was predeceased by his parents, three siblings and his first wife, Colleen. Memorial contributions may be made to Gleaner's Community Food Bank, Back Pack Fund. A Funeral Service will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty St., Milford, Michigan, on Monday, December 2 at 7 PM. (Source: ASU Foundation)
