Takayori "Taki" Atsumi,77, passed away on October 18, 2011. Taki was Professor of Cello at ASU for 36 years, and Principal Cellist of the Phoenix Symphony Orchestra for 19. During his years at ASU, he formed the Arizona Cello Society and was instrumental in establishing the American Cello Council, bringing several Congresses (and countless artists and colleagues) from all over the world to AZ. Among his accomplishments, he was awarded the prestigious Chevalier de Violoncelle from Indiana University in 1994 and was a founding member of the ASU Emeritus College. He is survived by three siblings, his wife, Sally, two daughters, a son, four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother.
