Up until 2003, the association had run its programs using member dues and the stipend from the University. By 2003 it was clear that the Video History Project was going to need more money than was available thru dues and Dave Scheatzle stepped forward and with Linda Van Scoy organized five golf tournaments from 2004 through 2010 which raised in excess of $70,000. This money allowed the Video History Project to produce the interviews in house.
After 2010 there was little need or desire on the part of the association to raise funds beyond what is supplied by member dues and the support from the University. But this began to change in the late 2010s when the cost of venues began to increase, including campus venues and the cost mailing, printing, etc. began to rise.
Jeri Meeks, 27th President, arranged to have the 2018 Annual Meeting held, at no cost, in one of the large rooms in the Phoenix Art Museum. While there was no monetary cost, ASURA agreed to let the art museum give a short presentation about the need for volunteers.
