Ruth E. Wineberg, 91, passed away December 25, 2018. She received her undergraduate degree at Augustana University in Sioux Falls, and later received her Master's degree from the University of Michigan. Prior to going to graduate school she lived in New York City working as an executive secretary at Union Carbide. She also spent a year working in Greece. Upon completion of her Master's Degree she began her teaching career at Georgetown University in Washington DC. In the late 1970’s she took a position at ASU where her area of work was ESL in the College of Extended Education. She retired from ASU in 1992. Ruth was a member of ASURA. She chaired the Education Committee from 1995-1998 and was a Board Member from 1997-2001. Ruth was a long time resident of the Wilson Art and Garden/Mitchell Park neighborhood in Tempe. She was often seen walking, sometimes taking pictures of homes in her role as the unofficial neighborhood historian. Ruth is survived by nephews and nieces. She is preceded in death by two sisters and a brother. A Memorial Gathering and Service will be held 1:00 p.m., Friday, January 18 at Tempe Mortuary, 405 E. Southern Avenue in Tempe.
