Roderick L. McIntire, 88, "Rod," formerly of Tempe, Arizona. Died on April 20 of complications from lung cancer in Grand Junction, Colo. Rod was born on Nov. 12, 1917 in Olathe, Colo., a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the USS Savannah, was employed in the 1950s by Douglas Aircraft, Long Beach, as an electronics engineer who helped design components for the DC-8, was employed as a calibration engineer at North American Autonetics in Calif. in the early 1960s, and moved to Ariz. in 1963, where he was employed at the electronics laboratory of the College of Engineering, Arizona State University in Tempe from 1965 until his retirement. Survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Elaine McIntire; son Timothy R. McIntire of Gilbert, editor of "America West" magazine; daughter Teri Rae Pretlow of Tempe, a music teacher in the Mesa School District; son Duane Scott McIntire, director of Camp Id-Ra-Ha-Je West in the Colorado Rockies; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Rod was a devoted Christian believer who volunteered at Grace Community Church in Tempe while living in the area.
